Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group

Seagrass Academy Story

Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group is the parent company for thriving restaurant brands including The Meat & Wine Co, Ribs & Burgers, Five Guys, 6 Head, Hunter & Barrel, Italian Street Kitchen and Alma’s Steakhouse.

They’re passionate about learning and development with the leadership team encouraging all team members to acquire knowledge, enhance professional skills and improve attitudes and behaviours so that they can excel in their job as well as experience personal growth.

Before engaging Academy Ink, Seagrass had some off-the-shelf training in place as well as policies & procedures for team members to complete when they joined the company.

What we built for Seagrass

With multiple brands under the one roof, comes a lot of opportunities for team members to move around within the company, whether that’s in a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) environment, all the way through to fine dining.

We wanted to make sure that the employees really understood the opportunities available to them. They weren’t just joining Seagrass as a part-time job to help them get through uni. They joined a business where they could establish their career in the hospitality industry. So we designed the courses to focus on Seagrass as a parent company, rather than the individual brands.

We also created 4 different streams for the team member level (the most we have ever done) so that each learning journey was truly relevant to the team member’s role - whether they worked in front of house, back of house or within a QSR or Restaurant brand.

These four streams all lead towards leadership roles in the Kitchen or Restaurant Front of House.

Academy Ink developed 23 modules for Seagrass, starting with their induction all the way through to management.

We were also able to map their training to 5 nationally recognised qualifications.

A particularly important win was introducing the Food Safety Supervisor certificate. With this initiative, Seagrass were able to conduct an audit on their supervisors, identify any gaps and have those supervisors go through the course, all via mobile devices in the workplace.

Even during covid lockdowns, Seagrass were able to keep their team members engaged and working through their training via our social mobile learning assessment.

Now, Academy Ink is helping to scope the option of delivering a Diploma of Leadership & Management to their manager.

What they say.

“It’s been a long challenge for us to take our training for all of our brands, and map it across to a nationally accredited training framework. But we were able to do that with support from Hana and her team from Academy Ink.

It’s very exciting to see that our employees now have the option of getting their training recognised and accredited.”
